Resolutions for 2024

Being the largest private rescue center for wild animals in Catalonia entails a great responsibility. The needs of animals are diverse and our commitment is firm.

Our members and godparents play a fundamental role in the realization of our work since we do not receive any help from the Administration. Would you like to join us?

There are a lot of things we need to get our act together on! Will we manage to do it all by 2024? No way! But we are going to give it our all, squeezing the most out of our limited resources and attending to the urgencies and needs of the animals we take in to assure them a future!

We need you by our side. If you haven’t already, join us as a member or become a godparent of an animal. Together we can achieve amazing things!

2024 animal-related goals for the year 2024

Wildlife shelter

Chamois La Coma

Purpose accomplished on 26/01/2024

Finish the space for La Coma chamois and relocate him.

Wild boars

We are working on this right now.

Wild boars need a larger space on level ground. It is also necessary to create a home for the youngsters right next door so that they can grow up in contact with their own species.

Elder falcon Iaia

Purpose accomplished on 21/02/2024

This elderly peregrine falcon requires space close to people. Due to lack of space, we placed her in a restricted area, where she was bored. She longed to be able to observe and interact with both us and the visitors.

Bombó, Frodo, Estefanía

Safe spaces must be built for the boreal owl Bombó (he has a detached retina), the scops owl Frodo (he is very old) and the jay Estefanía (she can’t see anything).

Flock

We are working on this right now.

In 2023, we built a new space for the flock. But newborn lambs and goats, like their mothers before they give birth, require a safe environment where they can be protected from possible fox attacks, and will receive additional feed to ensure their special needs.

Seagulls

With the arrival of Jordi the seagull, we have assumed that eventually we will have to take in many more seagulls, as no one is willing to help them. They need ample space, stimulation for their mental well-being and safe access to water.

Harris Eagles

Mystique and Piquara need a space of their own.

Eduard

We have to finish building the new space for Eduard, who currently resides in the restricted area for animals in intensive care.

Goshawks

Lucifer and Maze need their own space.

Llacet and Llacet Tortoises

The greek tortoises had to give up their home to the blind genet Helen. They now share their space with the resident jays, but this solution is not the most appropriate. They require a place of their own that suits their needs.

Wildlife rescue center

X-Ray Machine

It is imperative to equip the clinic with an X-ray machine immediately. Currently we manage as best we can, sometimes Laia has to take the animals to the clinics in Solsona or La Seu d’Urgell to diagnose their problem.

2nd veterinarian

Hundreds of animals arrive at our rescue center, with dozens arriving each week. Despite the incredible work of our veterinarian Laia, animals that need urgent care continue to arrive also on her days off. For this reason, it is crucial to hire a second veterinarian on a permanent basis to guarantee veterinary care every day of the year.

Pre-release spaces

We are working on this right now.

Despite significant improvements in pre-release bird preparation facilities, there is still much work to be done to achieve perfection in our system.

2024 goals for improvements and maintenance

Descriptive signs

Our goal is to create a space where each visitor feels inspired to care for and protect our planet, taking with them valuable learning and a deep respect for all forms of life that live not only in the refuge but in our area, which is protected to European level due to endangered species that reside there.

Ramona

Purpose fulfilled on 04/17/2024

The entire exterior mesh of Ramona’s space is in very poor condition and needs to be replaced with a new one.

Horses

What was perfect 10 years ago is now a bit pitiful. Kobe and Heidi are damaging the perimeter netting in their area to the point of needing to replace it completely.

Goals for 2024 to improve our visitors’ experience

Picnic Area

We are working on this right now.

We have prioritized the needs of the animals over those of our visitors. Where the picnic area used to be, there is now the fallow deer space. We need to quickly create a new area where visitors can rest.

Toilets

We need to build toilets that are protected from the cold, adapted for people with disabilities and equipped with baby changing facilities.

Tour around the refuge

Ramps must be created so that the guided tour can be done comfortably with a wheelchair or stroller.

Entrance

Transform the refuge entrance into a welcoming place so that visitors feel welcome from the very first moment. That when they cross that threshold, they know that they are about to dive into a world where animals reign.

Playground

Enrich the picnic area with a playful and educational playground built with natural materials! 🌳

Food

Offer food to visitors.

Dogs

Following the new animal welfare law, it is important to provide visitors with a safe space where they can leave their dogs while visiting the refuge.

Parking

Cover the entire driveway surface with asphalt, delimit parking spaces and place obstacles to prevent cars from driving out into the ditches.

Interactive games

Repair the deterioration of the current games and create new games so that the children, during the guided tour, if they get bored of the explanations, can play and learn in their own way.

Each month I will cross off the completed projects and mark the ones we are currently working on.

Don’t stand idly by as a mere spectator.
